Srinagar, January 04, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has strongly condemned the nocturnal raids by Indian police in Pulwama and Palhallan, vandalizing of dozens of houses and arrest of youth during the nocturnal raids and subjecting them to severe custodial torture in police stations. Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that police had become a terrorizing force for the common people in Kashmir and they were detaining and torturing youths in a brutal way.
Demanding immediate release of all the detained youth, the veteran Hurriyet leader cautioned that the terrorism of the police was not going to settle the issues but it would further complicate the situations and it was becoming the main reason for increase in the political uncertainty and instability in the territory.
Syed Ali Gilani expressed deep concern and anguish over the way the police are treating commoners in Kashmir and were acting contrary to its fundamental role of protecting life and property of the people. He said that they were at war with their own people to appease the authorities in New Delhi. He, however, said that the Kashmir dispute was not the issue of law and order but it was a human as well as political issue which couldn’t be resolved with the help of the gun or force.
Meanwhile, expressing deep concern and anguish over the miserable condition of the families particularly widows of the persons who were subjected to the enforced custodial disappearance, Syed Ali Gilani appealed to the responsible institutions and persons of the society to fulfil their moral and religious responsibilities towards the families of the disappeared people and extend a helping hand towards them in every possible ways.
