Srinagar, September 28, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani has completed 150 days under house detention of Indian authorities in the territory. According to Kashmir Media Service, the spokesman for his forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Syed Ali Gilani was only once allowed to venture out and that was when he had to apply for passport.” He said 68 forum leaders and members have either been lodged in various police stations or kept under house detention.
Meanwhile, the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in Srinagar said it has been sixth consecutive year that he was not allowed to address Eid gathering at historic Eidgah in Srinagar. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik continues to be under house arrest at his Maisuma residence in Srinagar. Other JKLF leaders including Showkat Bakshi, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Javaid Ahmed Butt, Altaf Raina and others have been lodged in police stations, a spokesman said.
The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party Chairman, Shabbir Ahmed Shah has been under house arrest for the past one month while National Front Chairman Nayeem Ahmed Khan has completed three-weeks under house detention. Hurriyet leaders including Javaid Ahmed Mir, Hilal War, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Advocate Shahidul Islam and others have either been placed under house arrest or lodged in police stations.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat condemned the detention of its chief, Aasiya Andrabi. “Police is not releasing her even after doctors at SKIMS Soura recommended her release on health grounds,” the spokesperson said.
