Islamabad: German Parliamentarian, Dr. Frithiof Schmidt called on Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Engr. Shaukatullah. They discussed issues of mutual interest between the two countries.
The Minister thanked the German government for their help and support extended to the Afghan refugees living in Pakistan. The Minister said that funds provided by the government of Germany will be channelized to the Afghan Refugees through RAHA Project ant it may be extended to the FATA which is directly affected of the Afghan refugees.
The ongoing problem of militancy in the region also came under discussion. The Minister said that the security problem in FATA is deteriorated now as a result of infiltration of the militants from the Afghan side of the Durand line. The Minister gave examples of recent militants’ attacks from the Afghan side, in areas like Bajaur, Mohmand and Dir, in which Pakistani security personnel and innocent civilians have been targeted.
The Afghan problem also came under discussion, the Minister explained to Dr. Frithiof, that in order to address the Afghan issue, it is inevitable to take the major stake-holders on board. The Minister said that Afghan problem could be solved through indigenous Afghan solution the Minister said that pushtoons in the region are the real stakeholders, but unfortunately they are marginalized at the moment. On boarding of Pushtoons will bring peace and lasting stability to the region, the Minister said.
The Minister said that blame game between Afghanistan and Pakistan is an exercise in futile there need to be the bridging of the trust deficit between the two neighbours. He assured the German Parliamentarians, that Pakistan and Afghanistan have now more close to each other and there is now much room for optimism.
He said that if the main stake-holders in the Afghan conflict are sincere and have will than lasting peace and development in destiny of the region, and Afghan-Pak region will never threaten the peace of the international community. He hoped that the German government will play their historic role for bring peace in the region.
Discussing about the law and order situation in FATA, the Minister said that now there is much improvement in the situation. He said that a couple of years back the situation was quite grim but now normalcy in returning back to FATA. Now people have started rising against the militant in the form of their formation of “qaumi lashkars”, against the militant.
