Islamabad: The Embassy of Pakistan, South Korea, launched intensive efforts for securing assistance from the South Korean Government, Korean citizens, Conglomerates and the Pakistani community for the flood victims of Pakistan.
As part of these efforts, a flood raising event was organized on the 27th September, 2011, by the Embassy of Pakistan at the Mughal Restaurant, Seoul. It was widely attended by members of the Pakistani community (including businessmen), Korean citizens and businessmen from large conglomerates, President of Pakistan-Korea Friendship Association and government officials.
The event comprised of a charity dinner and a musical concert where traditional Pakistani songs and dances were performed. During the fund raising event, an amount equivalent to US$ 16,500 were committed for the flood victims of Pakistan in cash and kind.
These included a cheque of US $ 10,000 by Korean company KOSPO, and US $ 6,500 (cash and commitments) by other participants. The Ambassador of Pakistan, His Excellency, Mr. Shaukat Ali Mukadam, profusely thanked all the participants for their generous donations.
Prior to this event, assistance in the shape of tents, blankets, water purifiers (worth US $ 200,000) has been committed and is being dispatched by the Government of Republic of Korea. Further, assistance in the amount of US $ 100,000 in the form of tents and blankets is being dispatched by another Korean company POSCO through an organization called “Hungry Child International).
Earlier, an amount of US $ 1,500 was collected following a campaign launched at the Seoul Central Mosque. This brings the total to nearly US $ 318,000 for the flood victims of Pakistan. All cash donations / commitments (of this amount, approximately US $ 18,000) are being deposited in the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund opened at the National Bank of Pakistan, Seoul, South Korea.
The Embassy of Pakistan is continuing with its efforts for mobilization of funds including extensive contacts with the South Korean citizens, Pakistani community, Universities and different organizations in the country.
