Full Court Meeting of Supreme Court, Islamabad

Islamabad: A Full Court meeting was held today (08.12.2011) in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and was attended by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Honourable Mr. Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Honourable Mr. Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Hon’ble, Mr. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tariq Parvez, Honourable Mr. Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Honourable Mr. Justice Amir Hani Muslim Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Honourable Mr. Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Honourable Mr. Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Honourable Mr. Justice Muhammad Ather Saeed. Dr. Faqir Hussain, Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan and Mr. Sajid Mehmood Qazi, Additional Registrar, Supreme Court also attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan formally welcomed the four newly elevated Judges to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He hoped that with the addition of these learned Judges to the apex Court, the capacity of the Court will be increased which should result into expeditious disposal of cases.

The Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan paid glowing tributes to the outstanding legal career of Honourable Justice Muhammad Sair Ali both as a lawyer and a Judge. The Honourable Chief Justice thanked the other Honourable Judges for making it convenient to attend this full court meeting which is being traditionally convened to say good bye to a member of the apex court on his retirement.

The other Honourable Judges of the Supreme Court also recalled the services of Honourable Justice Muhammad Sair Ali for strengthening the institution of judiciary as a lawyers, a Judge and a person endowed with rare qualities of head and heart and the ability to call a spade a spade.

The Full Court meeting observed that due to involvement of the Honourable Judges in larger benches seized with many important constitutional cases, and the shortage of judges the disposal rate could not be sustained at the required level. However, it was felt that in view of the recent elevation of the four Honourable Judges, the disposal rate should mark considerable increase.

The Full Court meeting also discussed the issue of holding of an International Jurists Conference under the auspices of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) at Islamabad in April, 2012. The meeting decided that a Committee comprising of the four senior most Judges of the Supreme Court may take all necessary decisions to convene the said Conference in a most befitting manner.
