Foreign delegates calls on Chief Justice

Islamabad: Different foreign delegates from Iran, U.S.A., Turkey, South Africa, Afghanistan and U.K called on the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry today i.e. 15.04.2012 in his Chambers in the Supreme Court Building, Islamabad.
The delegation of Iran comprising Dr. Syed Ebrahim Reisi, First Deputy Head of the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Mr. Justice Hassan Hamidian, Judge Supreme Court of Islamic Republic of Iran and Incharge of the Judicial Affairs of Provinces, called on the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and congratulated on successful conclusion of the International Judicial Conference which was arranged in successful manner.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan extended his thanks to him and told him that having muslim culture there are similarities between both countries in many matters as they are neighbours and are historically close and Islamic injunctions are enforced commonly in both the countries. The delegation extolled the hospitality of Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and invited his lordship to visit Iran which was accepted by Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and it was informed to the delegation that he will visit Iran at suitable time. Further, better cooperation and collaboration between the two judiciaries was also asserted to get the benefit of the experiences of one another.

The delegation of U.S.A. headed by Hon’ble Judge Delissa A. Ridgway, US Court of International Trade, called on Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and praised the arrangements of the conference and told that the exchange of knowledge is essential for judiciaries of both the countries. The delegation also praised the struggle of Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan for rule of law and supremacy of the constitution. The delegation informed his lordship that the judiciary and Bar of Pakistan has earned great respect in USA for their role in the dispensation of justice.

The delegation of Turkey headed by Dr. Alparsan Altan, Vice President Turkish Constitutional Court and comprising Dr. Selami ER, Judge Rapporteur Turkish Constitutional Court called on Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and appreciated the arrangements in International Judicial Conference. The Vice President of Turkish Constitutional Court conveyed greetings to judiciary of Pakistan on behalf of judiciary of Turkey and told that both nations have common tradition and culture.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan appreciated help/assistance extended by Turkish government at the disaster and earthquake. The Turkish delegates invited Judges from Pakistan to Turkey under the Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U) signed between the two countries. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan accepted the invitation and informed the delegation that the visit will be considered after the summer vacations.

The delegation of South Africa headed by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Z.M. Yacoob, Acting Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa called on Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and appreciated the Conference saying that it was a useful activity to exchange knowledge and experience. The South African delegation extolled the hospitality extended by Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan.

The delegation of South Africa also proposed joint meetings of Judges of both the countries which was appreciated by Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan also appreciated the participation of Acting Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa, drafter of South African Constitution, in International Judicial Conference in Pakistan.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Abdul Salam Azimi, Chief Justice of Afghanistan called on Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and appreciated the Conference. He said that Pakistan is his second home as he had stayed at Islamabad and Peshawar as a refugee and also visited Lahore, Quetta and Karachi. He said that the Judges of Afghanistan may be imparted judicial education in Pakistan.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan said that the Federal Judicial Academy is available for the purpose and we can sign an M.O.U for training of Judges in two countries. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan told him that Afghanistan is our neighbour Muslim country having similarities so we can take advantage from each others experience and wisdom.

The delegation of U.K comprising Sir Peter Singer, Retired Senior Judge, Ms. Anne-Marie Hutchinson OBE and Allison Shalaby who is working for charity called on Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and appreciated the steps taken in the International Judicial Conference and hospitality extended by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan. The delegation informed the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan that both the countries have common law and can learn from the experiments from each other.
