Islamabad: In order to monitor the relief operation and get updates about the prevailing situation in flood hit areas, the Parliamentary Flood Relief Committee visited flood ravaged areas of district Sanghar, district Umarkot, district Naukot and district Mirpur Khas. The Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Dr. Zafar Qadir and a team of NDMA officials also accompanied the Parliamentary body.
During their visit to district Sanghar, DCO Sanghar, Ghulam Haider briefed the committee about the current flood situation in the area. He also gave an update on the relief activities being carried out in the affected areas. The DCO Sanghar said that there is a shortage of tents in Sanghar but the supply of ration is steady.
The committee visited the site where 10 dewatering pumps had been installed to pump out flood water. These pumps are taking out 5-7 cusec water daily. The Provincial Minister of Sindh, Shazia marri also met the committee and appreciated their efforts for the flood hit areas.
During their visit to the affected areas of Umarkot, the committee was briefed about the flood situation by the concerned DCO. He informed the visiting high level body about the supply and the actual requirement of ration in the area.
The FRC directed the Chairman NDMA to provide all the required ration to the affectees of the area. The DCO Umarkot complained about the shortage of medicine for the affected population. The Chairman NDMA, DR. Zafar Qadir instructed the concerned authorities to ensure the supply of all the required medicines for the affected people of the area.
During their visit to the flood hit areas of district Mirpur Khas and district Naukot, the visiting committee members and the NDMA officials had detailed interactive sessions with the local administration about the flood situation and the humanitarian initiatives on going in the area.
