Lahore, April 29, 2014 (PPI-OT): The five-day International Training workshop on “Entrepreneurial Development”, arranged by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) in collaboration with the Investment Promotion Unit (IPU) concluded here at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) premises. The IPU has been set up at SMEDA head office through tripartite partnership of UNIDO, SMEDA and Italian government.
The participants, representing a wide range of organizations from the private and public sectors including the trade associations have been selected to take part in the EDT. The beneficiaries included staff from SMEDA, TDAP, AHAN, Board of Investment (BoI), PAAPAM, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI), Government College University (GCU), University of Management (UMT) who attended this training conducted by an International Consultant engaged by UNIDO Head Quarters, Vienna.
Speaking on the closing ceremony, Mr Raja Hussanain Javed, Provincial Chief SMEDA Punjab, appreciated the efforts of IPU in building capacities of national organizations. He mentioned that a conducive Entrepreneurial Development regime would help SMEs start, sustain and grow in the country. Mr. Imran Chaudhry, National Project Coordinator and Mr. Ameer Hassan Abubakr, UNIDO International Consultant also spoke about the benefits of such trainings. Mr Chaudhry mentioned that training on Investment Promotion was planned for similar group of beneficiaries in May 2014.
The Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT) workshop was designed to provide capacity building support to organizations working with small and medium sized enterprises. The EDT aimed to equip public organizations and trade associations with the necessary competencies in the area of identifying, selecting, training, counselling and supporting potential entrepreneurs to start and grow. Participants were introduced to the process of planning and implementing Entrepreneurship Development Programs for various target groups such as urban youth, educated unemployed, women, rural youth etc.
The EDT was part of on-going capacity building activities conducted through the joint UNIDO-SMEDA-Italia Programme, based at SMEDA Head Office.
