Karachi, November 24, 2016 (PPI-OT): As many as 40 films on Mountains from Everest to K2, and our own Karoonjhar to Khirthar range are ready to be seen on the big screen of the Auditorium of National Museum of Pakistan, and this is the first of its kind event that the Culture department has organized to highlight the Mountain Ranges in the province and all around the world, said the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Syed Sardar Ali Shah.
Speaking to the media at his office, the minister said that Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Minister for Transport will inaugurate the film festival on Friday 25th Nov. , and the main purpose of the First Sindh Mountain Film Festival is to introduce Sindh’s varied natural beauty of mountains, their ecosystem and the life of the inhabitants of these area. This is such a fascinating event for the tourists, students, researchers, and those have keen interest in documentary film making, he added.
Giving details on the occasion about the Film Festival, the Managing Director Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) Mr. Nazeer Soomro said that we will screen 40 films on Mountains, and among them there are 5 films on Sindh that would be presented for Screening in this Festival. The remaining 35 films are from the other province of our country and other countries of the world. Most of these documentaries are on Himalayan, Hindukash and Karakorum ranges of mountains, and are filmed by filmmakers from the European countries, United States, Russia, Switzerland and Canada.
The department of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Government of Sindh has organized the festival, in association with Pakistan International Mountain Film Festival, Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC), Pakistan Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, showcasing documentaries made by international and local filmmakers. He further told that we had received 750 entries of documentaries from 80 countries, and only 40 have been selected for screening.
The MD STDC told that the three day Film Festival will be held from 25-27 November 2016, and will be inaugurated by Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Minister for Transport on 25th Nov. (Friday/today). The Films will be screened throughout the weekend from 12:00 noon to 10:00pm, ending with the closing ceremony on Sunday followed by the traditional dinner to all the participants.
