Karachi, April 13, 2014 (PPI-OT): The first phase of free distribution of wheat among the 2,53,580 drought affected families of district Tharparkar and 70,000 families of other calamity hit areas of district Umerkot, Sanghar and Khairpur has been got competed at total cost of Rs. 552.1 million within 26 days, specially at the time when there was no wheat harvesting season. The Sindh Government was actively managing to launch second phase of wheat distribution within shortest possible time.
While briefing about the relief activities being carried out by government of Sindh at drought affected areas, the spokesman Chief Minister House said that in addition to wheat, about 1,20,000 Rashan packets each containing flour, rice, sugar, oil (Ghee) pulses/ bellytimber etc have also been distributed among the deserving affected families in which 40,000 Rashan packets were provided only by Government of Sindh and remaining were from other tiers of Government, Semi Govt and NGOs.
He said that this relief to the drought affected families has been provided as per the list prepared in 2011, indicating the number of affected families as 2,53,580 only in district Tharparkar as compared to 1,75,000 families mentioned in the list prepared in 1998.
He said that at present out of 16 lac population, relief has been provided to 13 lac people in District Tharparkar without any political, religious and ethnical discrimination. However he said that some families might be missed in the list prepared in 2011 and in order to provide relief to such families, Sindh Government has made the stock of 4800 wheat bags available and started receiving the applications from such remaining families not included in the list of 2011.
The spokesman ruled out the impression about discriminative distribution of the wheat and added that Sindh Government has put the effective monitoring mechanism in the field to ensure transparency in the relief distribution at all 153 distribution centres.
He said that wheat was distributed trough committees each headed by Assistant Commissioner concerned with one representative from Education, Revenue, District Police, Local Government, NGO and Media person (where available) as member. He said that even this process was monitored by the public representatives of the areas concerned.
He said that record of wheat distribution was available with evidence of CNIC, Thumb Impression and address of each beneficiary. He said that no specific complain from any deserving affected family or person so far has been received about discriminative distribution of Relief goods.
While briefing about the medical cover provided to the ailing people of District Tharparkar by Government of Sindh, the Spokesman to CM House said that the medical budget of Civil Hospital (CH) Mithi has been enhanced from 9.3 million to 20 million by the Chief Minister Sindh.
In addition to that bed strength of CH Mithi has been enhanced from 75 to 150, Taluka Head Quarter Diplo Hospital and Taluka Hospital Chachro from 20 to 40 each and RHC Islamkot from 10 to 20 beds. He said that in order to further strengthen the health facilities in district Tharparkar 58 new specialist medical officers and Women medical officers have also been appointed out of which 45appointee have joined their duties.
Beside 12 Mobile medical teams also deployed in affected all 44 union councils of district Tharparkar to ensure prompt medical cover to the ailing people of the district. He said that in the step towards re-enforcement of district Tharparkar with medics (Paediatricians and Para-medics) 26 doctors permanently posted and 31 sent on rotation basis while 20 female Para-medics sent at CH Mithi along with 09 male staff nurse. He said that with the Grace of Almighty ALLAH, now the situation at district Tharparkar and other parts fallen in calamity hit areas was under control.
