Karachi, August 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): Federal Finance Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, here on Saturday called on Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan. They discussed in detail the financial situation in the country and other matters. It said that Ishaq Dar and Dr. Ishrat- ul- Ebad Khan expressed the resolve that financial discipline would be ensured at every cost. The government is continuing efforts for the reduction in undue expenditures.
Federal Finance Minister pointed out that for successfully meeting the economic challenges, the government is busy in enhancing the internal revenue and for this full support of the people is required to increase the tax net.
The Minister and the Governor were of the view that a headway can be made while depending on our resources and the revenue receipts.
It was pointed out that at the moment there was a burden of the external loans and to tide over this it is essential that financial problems be resolved through a focused approach. Energy was the main problem being confronted by the country and the government is endeavouring to overcome this in the shortest possible time.
There was also a discussion regarding the payments of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and it was stated that this issue would be resolved at the earliest. In this connection an immediate payment of Rs. 3.1 billion is being made to the KESC by the government.
The Minister and the Governor hoped that after this payment, the KESC would reconsider its decision of load shedding and would withdraw it.
