Islamabad, July 31, 2013 (PPI-OT): Mr. Zubair Ahmed Malik, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Mr. S.M. Muneer, President of the India Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (IPCCI) and former President FPCCI and Mr. Gulzar Firoz, Vice President of FPCCI have welcomed and appreciated the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet to put ban on the export of live animals with effect from October 1, 2013.
In a statement released today, they said that this ban had been longstanding demand of the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) and FPCCI had fully supported this demand in the best interest of the country. They said that by putting this ban on the export of live animals, not only the tanneries will get raw material, but it will also ease the availability of meat, milk and other by-products from livestock such as hides, bones, blood and tallow to many downstream industries.
