Federal Ombudsman issues notices of hearing in around 27,000 Cases

Islamabad, January 09, 2013 (PPI-OT): The office of the Federal Ombudsman has issued notices of hearing in around 27,000 cases on receipt of complaints from citizens against the government agencies regarding maladministration, including acts of omission and commission based on injustice, negligence, delays and incompetence in deciding matters.

These notices have been issued throughout the country at the regional offices and head office of Federal Ombudsman.

The cases will be heard at the head office in Islamabad and regional offices in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, D.I. Khan, Faisalabad, Multan and Sukkur.

It may be noted that at the time of assumption of the charge by Mr. Salman Faruqui as Acting Federal Ombudsman, a number of 75,000 cases were pending in this office.

Acting Federal Ombudsman Salman Faruqui, after assumption of the charge, issued instructions for early disposal of all pending cases. The issuance of notices of hearing is as per policy, adopted by acting Federal Ombudsman.

As many as 8,550 were disposed of in the last ten days at the head office and regional offices. In addition to bring about improvement in the legal system of all the Ombudsman offices, recommendations have been formulated and sent to the stakeholders to elicit their opinion. These reforms are expected to be put into effect within the current month.
