Federal Ombudsman body investigating maladministration resulting in measles outbreak

Islamabad, January 16, 2013 (PPI-OT): Federal Ombudsman, Salman Faruqui has constituted a high Powered committee comprising of Justice Muhammad Raza, Advisor to Ombudsman and former Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court and Secretary Ministry of Law Mr. Ejaz Raheem, Honorary Advisor to Ombudsman and former Caretaker Minister and Federal Secretary Ministry of Health and former Chief Secretary KPK, Syed Anwar Mahmood, Honorary Advisor to Ombudsman and former Secretary Ministry of Health and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

This Committee has begun thorough investigation in maladministration resulting in measles outbreak throughout Pakistan. Federal Ombudsman has taken suo motto notice of widely reported allegations of maladministration.

Mr. Faruqui has forwarded to the Committee, reports received from Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Special Assistant to Prime Minister, Dr. Mrs. Azra Pechuho, MNA and Mr. Haleem Adil Sheikh, Advisor/Minister for Relief, Sindh regarding the outbreak for further inquiry. He also advised the Committee to interview affected families and concerned federal and provincial governments’ officials.

Federal Ombudsman has given three weeks to the Committee to complete its investigation and submit its report.
