Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Mir Israrullah Zehri has expressed his resolve to work hard for the availability of urea in the upcoming Rabbi season

Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Mir Israrullah Zehri has expressed his resolve to work hard for the availability of urea in the upcoming Rabbi season so that food security of the country is not affected.

The Minister said it while holding a meeting with delegates from National Fertilizer Marketing Limited (FML).

“We categorically dispel any fears of food security situation arising in Pakistan while we have about 8 million tons of wheat in our stocks. Availability of urea will be ensured for Rabbi Crops in the country.

There is a coordinated effort from the government to ensure that we timely provide the required urea and other fertilizers to the farmers. The situation will improve with the uninterrupted supply of gas to fertilizer industry and the arrival of imported urea in the local markets” said the minister.

The Minister added that ensuring food security is the foremost responsibility of the government and provision of agricultural inputs is crucially important to intact food security in the country. He said that 0.7 Million ton of urea will start reaching by the 19th of this month and the reaming gap between demand and supply would be met trough our local production of urea.

The Minister earlier held a meeting with Managing Director Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Supply Corporation (PASSCO) Major General Sohail Shafkat and discussed issues pertaining to production and procurement of rice. The M.D informed the minister that PASSCO has disposed of rice at very good prices and only 10,000 tons of Basmati is left in its stocks that would be sold out soon.
