Fast track Liquefied Natural Gas terminal to address prevailing gas shortages, electricity loadshedding in country

Karachi, March 07, 2014 (PPI-OT): A high level meeting took place at Port Qasim which was attended by Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources, Secretary Ports and Shipping, Chairman PQA, Chairman SSGCL and Chief Executive of Engro VOPAK Terminal Limited (EVTL) Sheikh Imran-ul-Haque.

During the meeting both the Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources were informed that a fast track LNG Terminal will be able to cater the shortage of gas on immediate basis.

He was informed that the project is designed while looking at all the related issues and that it is well supported to address the prevailing gas shortages and electricity load shedding of the country. He was further informed that establishment of LNG terminal at Port Qasim was principally agreed subject to formal approval by the PQA Board.

Later on the Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael along with the Petroleum Minister were taken for site visit of the LNG Terminal which concluded the proceedings. The inauguration of the terminal will be made by Prime Minister.
