European Union-Funded Technical and Vocational Education and Training Reform Support Programme enters third year of implementation

Islamabad, July 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reform Support Programme has entered its third year of implementation in 2013. This € 47 million five year programme is implemented by GiZ and jointly funded by the European Union, Netherlands and Germany. The EU funding is worth € 30 million.

At the national level the programme is conducted in cooperation with the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) and at the provincial level with the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authorities (TEVTAs), along with training providers for their capacity building.

The programme recently shared its second annual report. During its second year of implementation, the programme achieved the following:

Provincial/national skills development plans for 2013/14 prepared

Human Resource Development (HRD) policy for TVET teachers developed and agreed

Accreditation mechanism for TVET programmes agreed

TVET monitoring and evaluation system developed

Communication strategy approved and implemented

Pakistani National Qualifications Framework (NQF/TVET) developed

Competency based curricula development formats and procedures standardised and introduced

One short CBT course for house maids implemented in the Chenab training institute in rural Punjab

100 TVET lead trainers qualified through in-service training in pedagogical and methodological skills

Implementation modalities and procedures for Fund for Innovative Training (FIT) finalised

Participation of 15,000 young Pakistanis in the employment-oriented training programmes.
