Karachi, June 29, 2016 (PPI-OT):The meeting of Technical Committee for Tractor was held at PCSIR Conference Room in Islamabad, and chaired by the Director General, PSQCA Mr. Muhammad Khalid Siddique. After a brief introduction, the Director General emphasized the main purpose of his participation to expedite the process of standard development for tractors in Pakistan. He then explained the objectives of introduction of PS standard for tractor and importance of producing quality tractors in Pakistan. He further stated that despite of various obstacles the Technical Committee should continue and expedite standard development work.
The members of Committee explained their previous progress in development of Pakistan Standard and also pointed out the problems faced by Technical Committee while development of Pakistan Standard. Similarly non-availability of Diesel as per Euro-II Tractor Technical Committee to develop proper emission standard / safety standard. In absence of Motor Vehicle Rules, road safety standard for tractor cannot be developed, the members added. Issues with regard to role of provincial authorities to make their own standards has made situation confusing.
TC members agreed to complete the standard development process latest by 31st August, 2016 along with indication of problem that may hinder the implementation aspects of all such standards if the tractors are included in the list of mandatory items. The members further proposed that the applicable marking fee in that case has to be negotiable and finalized by PSQCA by taking all the stake holders on board. Director’ Standardization and In charge Automobile Division represented PSQCA in the meeting.
