Srinagar, June 21, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the people of South Kashmir have a feeling that BJP’s breakaway from coalition with PDP will have a little bearing on the existing ground situation. Muhammad Abdullah, a native of Bijbehara town in Islamabad said, “The PDP was seen as lesser evil. But during its tenure it made people realize that it was worse than previous regimes.” He said though he voted for PDP in 2008 and 2014 elections, but has realized politics in Kashmir is all about serving interests of India.
South Kashmir people are aghast particularly with former puppet chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. “We remember Mehbooba Mufti promising of getting us out of excesses by Indian forces if elected to power. She would participate in the funeral of mujahideen whenever they would be killed by Indian troops,” said Muhammad Sultan, a local from Liver village of Islamabad.
However, there are voices who believe it hardly mattered, who came to power after 90s in Kashmir. “We all know that whosoever acquires power in Kashmir has to be loyal to New Delhi. So, PDP’s u-turn didn’t surprise us at all,” said Mubashir Ahmed of Bachroo area of Kulgam district.
“The situation is deteriorating in Kashmir post 2010. Particularly, after the killing of Burhan Wani every pro-India politician has turned irrelevant in Kashmir. Nothing is going to change till India doesn’t realize that ‘iron fist’ policy will not work in Kashmir,” said Ajaz Ahmed, a resident of Zainapora area of Shopian.
