Encroachments should not be allowed in Karachi any more: Administrator Karachi

Karachi, April 22, 2014 (PPI-OT): We are not accepting any pressure from any corner and continue in our drive for encroachment free Karachi; this is the commitment of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation that encroachments should not be allowed in any parts of Karachi any more, especially on road sides, this was stated by Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Rauf Akhtar Farooqui in a meeting with the Delegation of Pakistan Consumers’ Federation (PCF)” – (The apex Consumer Body of Pakistan) headed by Chairman PCF Kaukab Iqbal delegation comprised by PCF Governing body members Mr. Hamid Maker Helpline Trust, Umar Ghauri Chairman The Consumers Eye Pakistan, Secretary General PCF Shaikh Rashid Alam, Madam Farkhanda and Air commodore Inamullah Khan.

PCF Chairman Kaukab Iqbal assures full support on behalf of Pakistan Consumers’ Federation (PCF) to Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui in his efforts for the betterment of Karachi, He also congratulated for finishing encroachments in Saddar Empress Market Saddar and Sohrab Goth. Kaukab Iqbal asked Administrator Karachi to take concrete action against Violators of Consumer rights.

Appreciating establishment of “Pakistan Consumers’ Federation (PCF)” Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui pledged his commitment that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will not tolerate fleecing of the people especially the common man at the hands of adulterators and profiteers.

He assured that we will not let adulterators and profiteers in Karachi and he will continue his efforts till the results are achieved to the satisfaction of the consumers. He said that his administrative officials have been permanently deputed at the bazaars vegetable and fruit Markets/ mandis to check artificial shortage of these commodities and profiteering.

Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui assured his full cooperation. He assured delegation that soon he will chair a long meeting with Pakistan Consumers’ Federation (PCF). He also gave directive to his PA to make sure that all responsible heads of Health, consumer affair and others must be present in that coming meeting.

Mr. Hamid Maker briefed Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Rauf Akhtar Farooqui in detail about the establishment of Pakistan Consumers’ Federation. He said that in Pakistan active recognizable consumer associations came into existence in the new millennium and the names of Helpline Trust, Consumer Association of Pakistan, Consumers Eye Pakistan, Consumer Forum, Pakistan Consumers Bureau and Consumer Foundation are at the fore front of consumer movement in Pakistan.

In a country like Pakistan where importance of consumer related issues like consumer rights and Consumer rights protection is rather a neglected and untouched area. It is with this back ground that these Active Pioneer consumer organizations join hands in the better interest of the consumers and the society of Pakistan. This all put the very burden of consumer rights responsibility on the shoulders of a Federation of Consumer Associations the Pakistan Consumer’s Federation.

Mr. Umar Ghauri asked Administrator Karachi to ban use of illegally imported used cooking oil entering Karachi and also to look into Paper Bags/sacks made by used cement bags, harming people’s health as even Atta is also packed in these bags by Atta manufacturers and it should be stopped.

Sheikh Rashid Alam gave detailed vision of PCF and asked Commissioner Karachi to cooperate for the sake of Consumers right protection he asked to establish a consumer monitoring cell in civic centre under the of Pakistan Consumers’ Federation (PCF) .

Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Rauf Akhtar Farooqui listened delegations grievances regarding consumer rights protection and assured his full cooperation. Consumer NGO’S draw his attention to unethical marketing practices, point out the need for enforcement of existing consumer laws.

Pakistan Consumers’ Federation (PCF) delegation already had mate with the Commissioner Karachi a month ago and soon will meet with Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif respectively regarding the grim situation of Consumer Right Protection in Pakistan.
