Karachi, February 26, 2015 (PPI-OT): The work for removal of encroachment from the construction site of remaining 2.2 kilometers Lyari Expressway will be completed by June 2015. This was decided at a high level meeting, chaired by Mohammed Sarfaraz Khan, Project Director Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project. The meeting was attended by Director Finance Shariq Ilyas, Director Land Shakir, Consultant as well as other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
Project Director directed the officers to rapidly start the work for removal of encroachment from the construction site of Lyari Expressway which was lying dormant for approximately 4 years and the services of law enforcement agencies would also be obtained in this regard.
It is pointed out that a decision was taken at a meeting of Standing Committee of National Assembly for Communication, chaired by Sufyan Yousuf, Chairman, Members National Assembly Committee, held on 9th February 2015, to remove the encroachment in the way of construction of Lyari Expressway.
The meeting was told that an amount of Rs. 1870 million is estimated to remove the encroachment and provide alternate better residential facilities. The Federal Government has provided Rs. 200 million and Rs. 500 million is expected by June 2015 in this regard.
Besides, correspondence has been made with the Federal Government for providing remaining amount of Rs. 1170 million for allocation in the next financial year budget so as to complete the removal of encroachment in the way of construction of Lyari Expressway and to rehabilitate the affected people.
It is also decided in the meeting to restart the process of transfer of already allotted plots to the affected people and allottees are requested to contact the office of Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project so that the transfer and verification of allotment orders could be materialized.
The plot owners are advised to contact the office of Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project to get verified their ownership rights of plot and transfer of ownership. Special staff has been deployed for this purpose.
