Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that the government is committed to empowerment of women in line with the vision of the Quaid-e-Azam and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He said that the various pro-women legislative enactments passed by the present Parliament would not only improve the lot of women but also make them stakeholders in the political process of the country.
The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to Ms. Faryal Talpur, MNA, who met him at the PM House today. The Prime Minister said that the women were 51% component of the entire population and their effective participation in the national affairs would accelerate the process of development in the country, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister further said that it was during the dispensation of the present democratic government that the Pakistani expatriates got the right to vote. Their participation in the political process would ensure their effective and meaningful say in the matters of national importance.
Ms. Faryal Talpur MNA appreciated the Prime Minister on the passage of the 20th Amendment with overwhelming majority by the Senate as well. She said that the Amendment would bring much-needed political stability in the country and also strengthen democratic system.
She also applauded the Prime Minister for his successful endeavour which led the 3.7 million strong Pakistani expatriates to get the right of vote by the Election Commission of Pakistan. Remittances by the overseas Pakistanis amounting to $ 1 billion a month is a great source of strength for the country’s economy, the Prime Minister acknowledged.
