Election Commission of Pakistan takes notice of reports that women are to be impeded from casting their vote in the forthcoming LG elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad, May 27, 2015 (PPI-OT): There are reports that women are to be impeded from casting their vote in the forthcoming LG elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, scheduled to be held on 30th May 2015, which is totally against the spirit of Islam and the Constitution of Pakistan where every women has fundamental privileges like a man to offer her opinion. The Election Commission of Pakistan has taken a serious notice of it and emphasized that it would be deemed an offence as imposing ban on women’s right is unconstitutional.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has therefore directed the KPK Government/DROs to monitor the scenario closely and eradicate any such move in shape of written or verbal agreement, speeches, announcements or any other such instigation which could create the sense of deprivation, discouraging women from their fundamental right of franchise. Furthermore, the KPK Government has also been directed to intimate arrangements made in this regard to the Election Commission forthwith.
