Election Commission of Pakistan decides to enlist Kashmiris in voters’ list

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan, after hearing the learned Attorney General for Pakistan as well as the applicants and objectors and keeping in view the opinion of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, views of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgat Baltistan, has been pleased to announce the Order on 17-11-2011 for enrolment of the names of the citizens of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, residing in Pakistan, who are in possession of CNICs issued by NADRA in the electoral rolls of Pakistan, as voters subject to their fulfilment of legal requirement prescribed under Sections 6 and 7 of the Electoral Rolls Act, 1974. The operative part of the aforesaid Order reads as under:-

“We accept the application and direct all Provincial Election Commissioners to issue instructions to the enumerators/verifying officers and AROs to enrol the citizens of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on the fresh Electoral Rolls whose process is still in continuation provided they fulfil the conditions of Section 6 and 7 of the Electoral Rolls Act, 1974.”

Necessary instructions are being issued to all concerned for compliance of the Order of the Election Commission of Pakistan in letter and spirit
