Election Commission of Pakistan advises aggrieved party to approach Supreme Court

Islamabad, July 25 2013 (PPI-OT): The Election Commission of Pakistan issued schedule for Presidential Election, inter alia, fixing the dates for withdrawal and the poll as 29th July, 2013 and 6th August, 2013 respectively. While deciding a pending case, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of Pakistan fixed the dates for above activities as 27th July, for withdrawal and 30th July for the poll vide its order dated 24th July, 2013 passed in CP No.39/2013 and directed the Commission to revise the election schedule accordingly, which has already been issued on 24th July, 2013.

2. Some political parties and candidates for election to the office of the President have raised objection as to the issuance of revised programme by the Election Commission on the ground that by changing the date for poll they have been deprived of their right to run their election campaign, as enough time has not been given to them for canvassing for votes.

The Commission has clarified that it has issued the revised programme in compliance with the aforesaid order of the Apex court and if anybody is aggrieved from that order of the court he may approach the Apex Court for seeking review of its order in accordance with law.
