Islamabad, December 05, 2012 (PPI-OT): Efforts made by Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis bore fruits and phone calls to Pakistanis from various countries have been exempted from tax, which was imposed a few months ago by the Government. This decision badly affected millions of overseas Pakistanis who protested on this decision.
Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Dr. Muhammad Farooq Sattar struggled to resolve this problem of overseas Pakistanis and wrote letters to the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan. He personally called on Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf on this issue and informed him about his concerns over this issue, which was against those million of Pakistanis who remit more than 13 billion US dollars to Pakistan’s economy every year.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan directed the concerned authorities after this meeting and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) de-notified the decision to impose tax on the calls which were made from other countries to Pakistan.
Federal Minister thanked Prime Minister of Pakistan and considered this step in the favour of overseas Pakistanis.
