Karachi: A delegation of Shia leaders led by Allama Abbas Kumeli called upon Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan at his residence on Wednesday to discuss the issues being faced by the community.
Promising to solve their issues on a priority basis, the governor instructed commissioner Karachi to engage religious scholars of different schools of thought to resolve their matters amicably.
“The religious scholars of this country have always strived for sectarian harmony but certain anti-state elements try to sabotage their efforts,” Dr Ebad said. Regreting the loss of precious lives in the recent sectarian violence in Gilgit, he said the killings were a way to create a rift between the two major sects.
“In Karachi, miscreants have often killed civilians on ethnic and sectarian grounds with the intention to instigate sectarian violence,” he said, adding that political colour was given to the killings to create differences among coalition partners. “But now we have understood these designs which can only be foiled through unity.”
