Karachi, January 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): Governor Sindh, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan, has expressed concern at the reports regarding spread of measles in some districts of the province. Chairing a meeting at the Governor House here on Thursday he directed that prompt and special measures be taken for checking this disease.
Dr. Ebad said that the routine coverage by the EPI was not sufficient and stressed that cent percent targets be set for this and there should be complete focus on this very task. He stressed that concrete measures be undertaken in this regard and emphasised that district-wise sampling be carried out in the province so that the real causes be ascertained and prevention.
The Governor was of the view that concerted efforts be made for removing malnutrition and other factors. He said that for obtaining better results of vaccination, the bale and devoted staff be deputed. The Sindh Minister for Health, Dr. Saghree Ahmed, presented various proposals and the Governor assured him every possible assistance. It was informed that for checking measles, crash programme has been initiated in the sensitive areas.
By January 7, as many as 23,29,812 children have been vaccinated and 31,11,080 vaccines have been provided in eight districts in the province. For effective monitoring a provincial control room has been established at the office of the Director General Health. District- wise control rooms have also been set up. Focal persons have also been appointed at the district and taluka levels.
