Dr. Nafisa Sadiq, Special Envoy of United Nations Secretary General on HIV/AIDS for Asia meets the Prime Minister

Islamabad: Dr. Nafisa Sadiq, Special Envoy of UN Secretary General on HIV/AIDS for Asia called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at PM’s House here today. During the meeting the Prime Minister suggested Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed for International Peace Prize for her meritorious services for the cause of the rights of the down trodden and for the rights of the people of Pakistan.

Dr. Nafisa Sadiq said that the posthumous Nobel Peace Prize does not exist and therefore Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed does not fall in the category.

On this the Prime Minister suggested Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi, head of Edhi foundation which she appreciated and promised to mobilize support for this at all levels.

The Prime Minister said that he was personally monitoring the polio eradication campaign in the country and in this regard Governor KPK, all Chief Ministers and Prime Minister AJ and K were required to submit progress report on regular basis.

The Prime Minister said that the increase in the polio cases in some of the areas of Pakistan was due to the floods and thousands of cross border movements at the Pak-Afghan border.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan Peoples’ Party’s manifesto gave much emphasis on the social sector which include education for all and health facilities including the family planning and mother and child care services.

Dr. Nafisa Sadiq said that Pakistan was low prevalence AIDS country but the cause of worry is the upward trend. She appealed to Prime Minister to give prominent media coverage to the AIDS Day being observed on the 1st of December throughout the World.
