Karachi, December 05, 2012 (PPI-OT): Karachi In a significant development, on the initiative of Governor Sindh, the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and Turkey (Forensic People of Turkey) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Governor House on Tuesday to set up first DNA laboratory in the province at the Ojha campus of the DUHS.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan said that this MoU ceremony would prove a milestone. He recalled that in the wake of devastating Baldia factory inferno that claimed the lives of over 200 workers and made it difficult to ascertain the identity of several of them, a dire need was felt to set up a DNA lab in the provincial capital.
He pointed out that the DNA tests help in identifying criminals as well as sorting out other matters. The governor said that e-policing has been introduced in the province and the proposed DNA lab would become crucial aspect of this system based on modern technology.
The participants were informed that the Turkey’s forensic institute would help the DUHS in establishing the DNA at its Ojha campus in the city. The governor directed the authorities concerned to complete this vital project on priority basis.
