Srinagar, August 10, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, members from the Gujjar and Bakerwal community held a protest demonstration inside the premises of Deputy Commissioner Office, Islamabad, against the torture of Gujjar activist, Talib Hussain, in police custody. Talib Hussain has been on the forefront for demanding justice to the eight-year-old rape and murder victim, Asifa, in Kathua earlier this year. The protest was organised under the banner of All Tribal Coordination Committee Jammu and Kashmir.
“We are protesting against the beating of Talib Hussain by the goons belonging to RSS and BJP and patronized by Lal Singh. They have severely tortured him in the police custody. If he is under police detention then how are these goons able to gain access to him with an intention to attack him physically? Talib should be immediately released from the detention and if the charges against him are found to be true, let the law take its own course,” said All Tribal Coordination Committee spokesman for South Kashmir, Basharat Chauhan.
The protesters demanded an impartial enquiry into the incident and also ensuring provision of justice to Talib Hussain. Carrying placards and banners, the participants raised slogans like, ‘We want Justice’, ‘Talib ko rihaa karo (Release Talib Hussain)’. The protesters also raised slogans against the former BJP so-called minister, Lal Singh.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of Kashmir Centre for Social and Developmental Studies (KCSDS) in a statement in Srinagar condemned assault on Talib Hussain who spearheaded the campaign for justice in Kathua gang rape and murder case of eight-year-old girl, Asifa. The spokesperson said the relatives of Talib have filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India that he has been targeted for championing the cause of nomad community and received life-threatening injuries due to torture during custody.
