Islamabad: A four-member delegation of the Shia community led by Syed Ali Raza Rizvi, President Majlis Ulema-e-Shia Europe called on Pakistan High Commissioner Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan today to raise their concerns about the killings of the members of their community in Pakistan.
They urged the High Commissioner to convey to the Government of Pakistan the concerns of Shia community living in Europe and demanded from the Government to take effective measures to deal with the problem. The delegation put forward the following three recommendations to the Government for consideration:
i) To take measures for immediate lifting of curfew in Gilgit,
ii) To take action against the miscreants, and
iii) To give compensation to the families of the victims.
The High Commissioner condemned the killing of members of Shia community and termed it a heinous act. Mr Hasan said that the Government of Pakistan was committed to protecting all its citizens and would continue its efforts to improve the situation.
He promised to convey their concerns and recommendations to the Government of Pakistan. The High Commissioner also appreciated the role of Shia Ulema in maintaining peace in the country.
The other members of the delegation included, Maulana Jafar Ali Najm, Maulana Hassan Abbas Rizvi and Maulana Azmat Abbas Rizvi. From Pakistan High Commission Deputy High Commissioner Syed Zulfiqar Gardezi, Minister Coordination Mr. Ihsan Ghani Khan attended the meeting.
