Delegation of District bar Association Multan calls on Chief Justice of Pakistan

Islamabad, March 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): A 15-member delegation of District Bar Association, Multan headed by its President Mr. Mumtaz Noor Tangra and comprising other office bearers called on the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the Supreme Court today, i.e. 19.03.2013, Islamabad.

Felicitating the newly elected cabinet members of Multan District Bar, the Hon’ble Chief Justice said, “It is evident from yearly elections of Bars that the legal fraternity believes in democracy and always works to promote and strengthen the democratic norms in society which is a good omen and healthy sign.”

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan also appreciated the unprecedented struggle of the legal fraternity for upholding the rule of law, supremacy of the Constitution and independence of judiciary in the country and expected they would continue to play their role in the quick dispensation of justice in the same spirit.

Further, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan said “strong bar is sine qua none for strong bench, it is the duty of Judges to decide cases on merit in accordance with law and Constitution without fear or favour while the lawyers are obliged to provide proper assistance to them”.

The delegation admired the role of Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan in the enforcement of fundamental rights of the citizens and played proactive role in ensuring accountability and good governance in the state.

They also discussed different issues and problems faced by them in their profession including the construction of chambers in premises of judicial complex which is being constructed. They also informed the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan that the National Judicial Policy proved fruitful for lawyers as well as litigants and enhanced the public confidence in courts by providing a speedy and expeditious disposal to them.

Talking on the issue of frivolous litigation, the Hon’ble Chief Justice said that the Bar members should play active role to discourage frivolous litigation as it not only causes choking of judicial system but also results into delay in the disposal of cases.

The delegation assured the Hon’ble Chief Justice of their full support and cooperation. They also invited the Hon’ble Chief Justice to visit Multan Bar. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the delegation.
