Karachi, January 19, 2016 (PPI-OT): Dawood University of Engineering and Technology’s Directorate of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) organized an Expose on ‘Understanding Unaccounted-for-Gas (UFG)’ at the University Auditorium on January 16, 2016, involving students and academicians. Mr. Khalid Rahman, Managing Director, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. Rahman lauded the efforts of students and faculty of Dawood University in presenting the reasons behind and solution for UFG.
A delegation of senior management from SSGC was also present. The event was marked by presentations. Dr. Faizullah Abbasi, Vice Chancellor DUET, presented his research report on UFG entitled “The Soft Side of UFG – Diagnostics and Cure”. Salim A. Mughal, Assistant Professor Petroleum and Gas Department, also delivered an impressive presentation about “The Mystery of Unaccounted-for-Gas” which helped audience to better understand the problem.
Speaking on the occasion MD SSGC Mr. Khalid Rahman said that it was always a pleasure to be with young students and added that he believed in giving attention and time to students because they are future of this country. They should understand that they have to work hard to achieve a prosperous Pakistan.
He said looking at the energy level and enthusiasm of Dawood University students, he would like to invite the students to participate in SSGC’s forthcoming Projects. The company is going through a paradigm shift right now in terms of carrying out very large programs i.e. pipeline construction, LNG and UFG control. ‘We want Dawood University to be part of these programs’, MD SSGC said.
Mr. Khalid Rahman further said that the organizational restructuring which was done earlier has not been completed. The division of Karachi into three regions central, east and west, needs to be further divided into segments to form small business units. The program of segmentation is being in progress since long time but we are taking it head on now, he said. Academic Coordinator Dr. Dost Ali Khowaja, Acting Registrar Capt. (R) Waqar Hussain Shah, all departments’ chairpersons, faculty member, staff and students were present.
