Custodial killing of youth sparks protests in IHK

Srinagar, March 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, several were injured when police and troops resorted to brute force on hundreds of people protesting against the killing of a civilian, Bilal Ahmad Dar in police custody in Islamabad.

The personnel of Indian paramilitary forces and police also fired teargas shells on the protestors. Half a dozen police men including two top officers were also wounded during the clashes. Tension gripped in the area after locals found body of a youth, who was arrested by police, lying near railway track on Tuesday morning at Monghalla area of the town.

The residents said that Dar was picked up by a police party last night and killed in custody. On the other hand, police men also barged into the hospital and beat the Para-medical staff, attendants and a camera man, eyewitnesses said.

“I was beaten to pulp up by the police men while I was discharging my professional duty. They also snatched my camera and deleted the pictures from it,” said a camera man of a local daily, Muneeb-ul-Islam.
