Lahore, January 16, 2013 (PPI-OT): Country’s first Independent Power unit in Korangi Creek Industrial Park, Karachi, will start production in March this year.
This was stated by Mohsin Syed, the Regional Director, National Industrial Parks Development and Management Company, a subsidiary of PakistanIndustrial Development Corporation, to a group of media personnel after meeting of the stake holders at the Regional Office here yesterday.
He said that this IPP will start its initial production from 3.5 megawatts and increase its production with increasing demand created by the industrial units being set up at Korangi Creek Industrial park while cost of a unit of electricity would be less than being charged by Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation presently.
He said that this Independent Power project has been built on Build, Own and Operate (BOT) basis. Its planning was completed last year, all investment was made by a local company in collaboration with a foreign investor.
Talking about Korangi Creek Industrial Park, Mohsin Syed said that 85 per cent infrastructure had already been completed including roads, sewerage, drainage, water. Uninterrupted supply of electricity to all enterprises will be assured and they will be facilitated under a one window operation for their utility requirements.
He said that the allotment of industrial plots was being completed in very transparent manner. Five building plans have been approved by the Korangi Creek Cantonment Board and the construction of these five units will start within this month.
The Regional Director, Mohsin Syed hoped that Korangi Creek Industrial park would play a vital role in the industrial development of the country and
Would generate employment opportunities for 40,000 people directly and more than 200,000 families indirectly, he concluded.
