Islamabad, January 27, 2016 (PPI-OT): Country representative of UNWOMEN Pakistan, Mr Jamshed M. Kazi called on the Minister of state for IT and Telecom Mrs. Anusha Rehman here in her office today. Mr. Kazi greeted the Minister on her recent recognition by UNWOMEN and ITU as a “Global Achiever”.
This award was conferred upon the Minister in recognition of her work in development of the ICTs and particularly her practical initiatives for the cause of “women empowerment through technology”, two United Nation organizations, ITU and UN Women have jointly awarded Minister of State for IT, Mrs. Anusha Rahman Khan, the prestigious “GEM-TECH Global Achievers” award for 2015.
The Minister apprised the country representative of UNWOMEN Pakistan, regarding key initiatives being taken by the ministry for ICT skill development and capacity building of disadvantageous women/girls of lowest strata of the society to enable them to earn their livelihood by learning ICT skills i.e. Coding , Web designing. Mr. Jamshed M. Kazi appreciated the vision and efforts of the minister for development of ICT sector and assured utmost cooperation on special initiatives especially for girls and women in future.
Besides this, Special assistant to the Prime Minister/Chairman Pakistan board of investment Dr. Mifftah Ismael also called on the Minister Anusha Rehman here in her office today. Anusha Rehman said that IT and Telecom sector has more potential for Investment now and this business environment has become more attractive for foreign investment especially in IT and Telecom sector. Miftah Ismael said that we are taking every possible step to facilitate International as well as local investors to enhance the volume of investment in drastically thriving telecom sector of Pakistan.
