Karachi, January 23, 2019 (PPI-OT): Consul General Sri Lanka, H.E GL Genetanatwa, expressed deep interest in promoting bilateral trade with Pakistan, has urged the traders of Karachi to review opportunities for exporting items besides rice in Sri Lankan markets. So that they can promote bilateral trade. He was speaking in a meeting at Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association (KWGA). Patron in Chief KWGA Anees Majeed, Raja Assr Mall Sr.Vice Chairman, Abdul Rehman Akbani V Chairman, Zahid Ali Bukhari General Secretory KWGA Joint Sec Asif Sheik , Finance Sec Hanif Bawani , Mc Members Farooq Kas, Khawja Nadeem, Zubair Ashrafi, Arif Yousuf, Rehman Qureshi, Farid Haji Khisi Altaf Bhai and Abdul Qadir were also attended the meeting.
Sri Lankan Consul General also visited rice wholesale market Dandia Bazar, where Consul General reviewed has different rice samples and appreciated Pakistani rice quality. On this occasion, a gift of rice was presented to Consul General.
Sri Lankan Consul General said in the meeting , despite the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the trade volume is not at good level. Pakistani exporters should take advantage of FTA, because in Sri Lanka, including rice, there is a large number of other items may be exported. Sri Lanka also keen to promote tea export to Pakistan.
Patron in Chief KWGA Anees Majeed , appreciated interest in the promotion of bilateral trade of Sri Lankan Consul General, and suggested that under FTA, Pakistan can export 6,0000 matric ton rice to Sri Lanka, which is very little quantity accordingly Sri Lankan huge market consumption, therefore for promotion of bilateral trade, Sri Lanka should increase rice quota under FTA, which can enhance the trade volume, while Pakistani importers also want to explore Sri Lankan markets.
