Concern over pathetic condition of Kashmiri prisoners in jails

Srinagar, May 17, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has expressed serious concern over the miserable plight of Kashmiri political prisoners languishing in different jails of India and the territory.

A DFP spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said despite being political prisoners they are denied every right guaranteed in the jail manual.

He praised the unflinching stance of illegally detained party Chairman, Shabbir
Ahmad Shah, towards the long pending Kashmir dispute and said that despite his serious ailments, Shabbir Shah was bravely resisting the hardships of Tihar jail. He said the DFP chairman in his 32 years of imprisonment has advocated the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.

The spokesman said India is prolonging the illegal detention of Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Raja Meraj-ud-Din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Shahid Yousaf, Syed Shakeel Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad Watali, Fahmeeda Sofi, Naheeda Nasreen and other political prisoners languishing in New Delhi’s Tihar jail.

He said it is unfortunate that the Indian fascist ruling class treats resistance leaders like criminals in jails. He said political prisoners Shabbir Shah, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr Shafi Shariyati, Dr Ghulam Muhammad Butt, Muzuffar Ahmad Dar, Talib Hussain, Ghulam Qadir Butt, Muhammad Ayoub Dar, Muhammad Ayoub Mir and others are the torch-bearers of the resistance movement.

The spokesman urged the international human rights organizations to take cognizance of the inhuman treatment meted out to Kashmiri political prisoners in jails and put pressure on India to stop undemocratic attitude towards these political prisoners.

Hailing Pakistan for its goodwill gesture of releasing Indian prisoners, he said the so-called largest democracy of the world must also release Kashmiri political prisoners before Eid-ul-Fitr so that they could celebrate the festival with their families and relatives.
