Concern expressed over political detainees’ plight in jails

Srinagar,
February 02, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leader and the
Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL), Mukhtar Ahmed Waza has
expressed concern over the plight of Kashmiri political detainees and
questioned the silence of human rights organizations over the issue.

Mukhtar
Ahmad Waza addressing a condolence meeting in Islamabad town, said it is
unfortunate that none of the rights organizations has visited jails of India
and the occupied territory to monitor the condition of Kashmiri detainees. He
urged the human rights organisations to focus their attention on the grave
violations of detainees’ rights in jails and use their good offices to ask New
Delhi to release all illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists.

Hurriyat
leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, (JKSM), Zafar
Akbar Butt, in a statement in Srinagar denounced the fresh arrest spree against
party activists and unnecessary harassment of people all over in occupied
Kashmir ahead of Indian Prime Minister’s visit. He said more than 100 party
activists have been booked under false cases and their families asked to get
bail from 1st Class Magistrate of their local districts, which is highly
condemnable.

Meanwhile,
a delegation of Hurriyat leaders including Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Muhammad Ahsan
Untoo and Imtiyaz Ahmad Reshi, today, visited the residence of Hurriyat leader,
Farooq Ahmad Tawheedi, who was recently released from illegal detention and
enquired about his health. They also discussed prevailing situation of occupied
Kashmir with Farooq Tawheedi.

Hurriyat
leaders Zafar Akbar Butt and Imtiyaz Ahmed Reshi along with delegations visited
the residence of Shabbir Ahmed Zargar and expressed sympathies over the demise
of his mother. General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political
Movement, Khawja Firdous Wani in his statement in Srinagar expressed concern
over the illegal detention of party activist, Shakeel Ahmed Butt and other
