Commonwealth Business Forum: President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry discussed Investment Opportunities available to Foreign Investors

Karachi: The Commonwealth Business Forum started in Perth, Australia. Senator Haji Ghulam Ali, President-FPCCI and Vice President of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry participated in the Business Forum, which was inaugurated by Ms. Julia Gillard, the Australian Prime Minister.

The Forum discussed the present challenges faced by countries and their solutions, particularly related to the growth, development, business opportunities, Mines and Mineral, Energy and agriculture sector.

The Australian Prime Minister hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting Prime Ministers, Leaders of Business community and Presidents of Federations of participating countries in the Commonwealth Business Forum. Senator Haji Ghulam Ali met Ms. Gillard, the Prime Minister of Australia; Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lankan President, Mr. Good luck Jonathan, the Nigerian President, Mr. Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, Ms. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago; Lord Green, UK Trade and Investment Minister; Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister and Dr Mohan Kaul, the Director General of the Commonwealth Business Council, on the occasion and stated that FPCCI is organizing an International Investors Conference in Bhurban from December 9-11, 2011.
He briefly discussed the investment opportunities available to foreign investors in Pakistan, and invited investors along with business community delegations to avail the opportunities of investment. Mr. Khalil-ur-Rehman from Okara and Mr. Suhail Yousuf, Former Vice President of Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry were also present with the President-FPCCI on the occasion.

The President-FPCCI also talked about the transferability of mining technology to Pakistan. Furthermore, he stated that Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA are rich in mineral resources. He urged the participants’ of countries to transfer the technology in order to extract marble and other resources.

He said that the transfer of technology is very crucial to improve the standard of living and reducing unemployment in that area. He said that Pakistan is going through a difficult time, and all countries should provide technological advancement and market access to Pakistani products to all European countries as well as Australia, Canada etc.

He further said that trade is the preference of the Pakistani government, and the business community instead of aid and also asked for assistance to achieve this goal. Thereafter, President FPCCI also invited the Prime Ministers, business community leaders and Investors to explore new avenues for investment in Pakistan.

He said that Pakistan is a business friendly and fertile country, where there is a high rate of return and international investors should avail this opportunity. He also invited international investment in the dairy sector, marble, agriculture, animal feed, poultry, and mining and gave assurance of facilitation and assistance to investors for this purpose. He further guaranteed the assistance of FPCCI in establishing a good relationship between investors and the Government of Pakistan.

The Presidents of Nigeria and Rwanda and other leaders accepted the invitation of President FPCCI for the Investment Conference and showed their interest in attending the conference. The President-FPCCI spent the whole day in meetings with the leaders of other countries and discussed the matters related to the promotion of trade and investment.
