Karachi, April 19, 2015 (PPI-OT): Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi presided over a meeting to review the arrangements for the Tree Plantation and Cleanliness Week to be organised on the occasion of World Earth Day city administration with the support of concerned government and semi departments, private organisation and NGOs working for the improvement of environment.
The meeting decided that a Tree Plantation and Cleanliness Week be held from the 22nd April the day Earth Day is being observed all over the world. On this occasion Forest Department Government of Sindh will provide plants free of cost to the organisations taking part in the campaign and the city administration as well as the district municipal bodies will coordinate and support the concerned organisation in this regard.
The meeting was attended among others by the Administrator District Municipal Corporation East Salahuddin, Officials of Forest Department Sind, representatives of Civil Aviation Authority, Southern Sui Gas Company, K-Electric Members of the Bohra Community, NGO Damakta Chamakta Pakistan, National Forum for Environment and Health and Patel Hospital.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi said there is a great need to work for the protection of the earth as the earth has great challenges these days. He said Karachi too faces the environmental challenges which need to be addressed and resolved by all concerned agencies as well as the citizens.
He said every citizen should celebrate this day and commit to observe the rules require for the protection of earth. He said the better way to observe the Earth Day is to plant trees and to clean your city. He said that the cleanliness campaign initiated by the Minister for Local Government Department would certainly help protect the Earth in the city. He thanked the organisations who are taking part in the campaign and hoped that that other organisations would also come forward to play their role and will participate in the Earth Day Week Programmes.
Meanwhile a delegation of KPC Committee on Environment met the Commissioner Karachi at his office and offered their services for the improvement of environment in the city. The delegation invited the Commissioner to visit the Karachi Press Club for further briefing and arrangements of the programmes to be organised by the Club with the support of city administration. The delegation included Asghar Omer Jamal Khurshid, Waqar Bhatti Shabeena Faraz and Akhter Shahin Rind.
