Karachi, July 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has directed Bachat Bazaar section of E and IP Department to ensure implementation on bylaws with reference to purchase of daily useable items, cleanliness and security arrangements in bachat bazaars in the month of Ramazan and in this connection a comprehensive inspection system in all bachat bazaars should be formed so that citizens could have fresh and clean environment during Ramazan.
Following the directives of KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi bachat bazaar section of E and IP Department has issued necessary directives to bachat bazaar organizers for Ramazan. Bachat bazaar organizers have been bound to establish a complaint center in every bachat bazaar with the availability of entry register, first aid, loud speakers, cloth measuring instrument and other things whereas government rate list of vegetables, fruits and general items should be displayed on all relevant stalls and all stalls should be kept with their specific numbers and all general items should be available with their price.
Food items especially vegetables and fruits would be sold only on tables and their sale on ground would be prohibited. Carts and stalls would not be allowed to setup inside or outside of any bachat bazaar and no organizer would receive any fee or rent from them.
Organizers were also directed to curb purchase of non-standard and stale food items and cleanliness arrangements should be ensured according to health principles in bachat bazaars and sale of condiments in open condition would be prohibited.
Widening of inside and outside routes should ensure and holding of bachat bazaars should not affect traffic flow on adjoining roads. Responsibilities of traffic arrangements would be on bachat bazaar administration. Special arrangements for fresh water, prayer place, aftar arrangements for citizens visiting bachat bazaars would also be ensured.
Organizers of bachat bazaars should not leave garbage on their place and all goods, tents and tables should be removed as bazaar ends. It was declared necessary for organizers to be present on the location from start to end of bachat bazaar and ensure implementation on directions.
Strict security arrangements should be ensured around bachat bazaars and inform police in case of any irrelevant thing seen otherwise organizers would be responsible for any loss and disciplinary action against bachat bazaar administration would be taken in case of negligence found during checking of implementation on directives.
Meanwhile according to the statement of E and IP Department Administrator KMC was the only authority of issuing permission letter for holding bachat bazaar, Ramazan or Eid bazaar, meena bazaar, melad and other programs in the jurisdiction of KMC and former KDA and holding of them with the permission of other organizations was illegal and KMC administration has legal right for taking actions against them.
According to an statement complaints regarding inflation and low quality of food items could be launched in Bureau of Supply and Prices, Central Control Room Commissioner Office Karachi and Deputy Commissioners’ offices of five Districts whereas complains regarding lack of facilities in bachat bazaars could be launched on phone numbers 99231317 – 99232095 – 99232442 of E and IP Department.
