Chinese foreign minister meets the pm

Islamabad, February 13, 2015 (PPI-OT): Chinese Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi called on Prime Minster Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at the PM house here this morning.

Welcoming him on his first official visit to Pakistan, the Prime Minister said that friendship with China is the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy, emphasizing that China has always been a sincere friend of Pakistan.

Mr. Wang informed the Prime Minister that the purpose of his visit was to do preparatory work for the visit of President Xi Jinping this year.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is eagerly looking forward to welcoming President Xi Jinping to the country adding that the government believes this important visit would further strengthen the all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries bringing them closer to achieving the dream of building a “Pakistan-China Community of Shared Destiny.”

He said Pakistan attaches high importance to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and expressed the confidence that President Xi’s expected visit would help fast-tracking CPEC early harvest projects.

The Prime Minister said that President of Pakistan yesterday conferred Hilal-e-Pakistan on Mr. Wang Yi in recognition of his contribution towards promoting Pakistan-China friendship.

He said that security of Chinese nationals working in Pakistan is a matter of high priority for Pakistan and special arrangements are being made for this purpose.

Mr. Wang Yi thanked the government of Pakistan for taking measure for improving security of Chinese institutions and personnel in Pakistan.

He conveyed greetings of Chinese Premier, Mr. Li Keqiang and President, Xi Jinping to the Prime Minister and said that China appreciates the importance Pakistan attaches to the friendship with China and the contribution the Prime Minister has personally made to strengthen this relationship taking it to new heights.

Mr. Wang Yi said that during the visit of the Chinese President both sides will hold in-depth exchanges with each other on all matters of mutual interest including economy, security and regional developments in the backdrop of changing international scenario.

The Chinese Foreign Minister said that Pakistan and China are iron brothers and frequent bilateral exchanges have further strengthened this relationship.

President Xi attaches great importance to the relationship with Pakistan and cherishes the trust and friendship between the two countries, he said.

Mr. Wang said the menace of terrorism and extremism is the common enemy of both the countries and China would continue its cooperation with Pakistan in successfully meeting this challenge.

Pakistan and China are celebrating 2015 as their Year of Friendly Exchanges which has formally begun with the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister and would be followed by a series of high level bilateral visits from both sides.

Federal Minister for Finance, Mr. Ishaq Dar; Federal Minister for Planning, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal; Advisor to PM on National Security, Mr. Sartaj Aziz; SAPM, Mr. Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary were present during the meeting.

Ambassador of China to Pakistan, Mr. Sun Weidong was also present on the occasion.
