Karachi, March 19, 2015 (PPI-OT): Chief Secretary Sindh Muhammad Siddique Memon has advised the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board to speed up the activities and ensure timely completion of the concerned assignments. He expressed these views while presiding the briefing session of the SSWMB on Thursday in Sindh Secretariat. Managing Director SSWMB Roshan Shaikh made a presentation, thereof. The SSWMB has initiated work in first phase for Karachi, Nawabshah and Hyderabad.
It was apprised that SSWMB was established under SSWMB Act 2013. This is a scientific integrated project that is linked with the generation of electricity, Gas and other sorts of power, through scientific recycling; as well the sanitary engineered land fill sites would also be established, to eradicate the issues of Health and Environment, affected by the garbage pollution. The SSWMB will also work on hospital hazardous waste and industrial hazardous waste in Karachi, for which study has been started.
The project would start functioning in Karachi in October- November, this year, while at Nawabshah in September 2015.The study for Nawabshah has been completed in record time. In addition to this the Hyderabad based study is being under taken.
