Karachi, August 21, 2015 (PPI-OT):The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has called upon the medical fraternity, high qualified and specialist Doctors to come forward and join the hands of the government in eradication of fatal diseases, like Hepatitis B, C from the society. He said that PPP government was giving top priority to health and education to raise the living standard of the people which can be gauged from this fact that before PPP government health annual budget had been allocated hardly Rs. 6 billion but we raised it up to Rs. 14 billion.
He said that during the five to seven years tenure of the PPP Government we have established four Medical Universities, now it is up to Medical fraternity to come up with dedications, commitment not only to provide health education but also to eradicate the fatal diseases from the society. This he observed while addressing Inaugural Ceremony of National Institute of Liver and Gastro Intestinal Diseases and laying foundation of Tramma Centre at Dow University of Medical and Health Science, Karachi last night.
The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that since, fatal disease of the Hepatitis B and C is getting to be epidemic position in Sindh, it has become very essential to have more efficient liver treatment / transplantation facilities to the ailing people at their door step with nominal / affordable charges. He said that at present people are compelled to get this treatment at abroad which was too costly and not affordable to common man.
He said that Sindh Government keeping this situation in view made a policy with two steps, firstly it established Hepatitis treatment corner at each District Hospital in Sindh. Secondly to encourage capable institutions to develop their capacity and introduce and offer liver Transplantation facilities at nominal charges to the ailing people at their door steps. He said that now he is relishing to inaugurate Institute of Liver Transplantation at most important Dow University of Health Science.
He stressed upon the high qualified doctors to serve the community on missionary basis rather than monetary purpose. He said that health is important sector and government is investing in it for the betterment, but the active participation of the Medical fraternity and health education in community is needed to make it more fruitful. The Vice Chancellor Dow University of Medical and Health Science Prof. Masood Hameed Khan while addressing the ceremony said that the National Institute of Liver and Gastro Intestinal Disease is now totally completed and first Liver Transplantation Surgery would be performed during this month.
He said that four Surgeon / Doctors have been got trained from Foreign Countries including USA who will perform in this institute. While talking about the establishment of Trauma Centre, the Vice Chancellor of Dow University said that the Trauma Centre designed ground plus four stories would be completed by the end of 2016 at its estimated cost of Rs.198 million.
Earlier the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah inaugurated National Institute of Liver and Gastro Intestinal Diseases and laid foundation stone for establishment of Trauma Centre at Dow University of Health Science amid the clapping. Professor Rana Qamar, Director (NILGD) and Chairman Dow University Dr. Khursheed Qureshi, also spoke on this occasion.
