Islamabad, January 04, 2017 (PPI-OT):Minister of State and Chairperson BISP, MNA Marvi Memon called on the President of Pakistan, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain. The purpose of the meeting was to give the periodic briefing on the overall operations of BISP to the Patron-in-Chief of the organization and to extend an invitation for the launch of the third impact evaluation report on BISP conducted by Oxford Policy Management (OPM).
Secretary BISP, Ms. Yasmin Masood, Secretary to the President Mr. Shahid Khan, Press Secretary to the President Rao Liaqat Ali Khan and DG BISP Ms. Humaira Mufti also attended the meeting. The President appreciated the performance and contribution of BISP in fighting the menace of poverty. The President was pleased to accept the invitation for the launching of third impact evaluation report on BISP, setting a tradition, as the first impact evaluation report was also launched by the President on September 17, 2015.
Apprising the President on new poverty survey for National Socio Economic Registry (NSER) Update, Chairperson said that the pilot phase of the resurvey is in progress since June 2016. For the NSER update, two approaches i.e. Desk Approach and Door to Door Approach have been adopted. 16 districts across Pakistan are being covered in the pilot phase. Door to door approach would be adopted in 12 districts and in 4 districts Desk Approach is being employed.
The President was also informed that BISP is in the process of shifting its various payment mechanisms to Biometric Verification System (BVS) in order to enhance the transparency and effective service delivery. So far, BVS for payments has been initiated in 9 districts and in 2017 BISP aims to completely shift its payment mechanisms to BVS.
Chairperson BISP also briefed the President on the budget of BISP. She stated that out of total allocated budget of Rs. 115 billion for FY-2016-17, Rs. 97 billion have been contributed by Government of Pakistan while the development partners including World Bank, DFID and ADB have contributed an estimated Rs. 18 billion.
