Islamabad, August 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): In the wake of recent flash floods in District Chitral, Chairman NDMA, Major General Saeed Aleem along with NDMA officials visited District Chitral to review the current situation, take stock of measures taken to manage the situation and asses any future needs.
DCO Chitral, Muhammad Shoaib ullah Jadoon gave detailed presentation on estimated damages, losses to public and private properties, communication and infrastructure caused by flash floods. Local representatives from line departments and Civil Armed Forces also attended the briefing.
DCO Chitral apprised the delegation that 7 people reportedly died while 80 houses were fully and 136 houses were partially damaged. Damages to infrastructure included, 119 irrigation channels,78 water supply schemes,34 roads and 38 bridges as well as 23% of crop land area has been badly affected.
He mentioned that the District Administration had provided tents, blankets and food packages and also established medical camps. Complete damage assessment is being done and all emergency services remain on high alert.
The DCO also informed that the District Administration has put in all possible efforts to provide emergency response and relief to the affected communities in the harsh terrain of District Chitral and appreciated the relief provided by various agencies for the flood affectees.
In the end, Chairman NDMA, Major General Saeed Aleem expressed his grief over the loss of life in recent floods in Chitral and also appreciated preparedness and response of District Administration for timely provision of relief to the affected population and also assured all possible support of NDMA and federal government to them.
