Chairman Capital Development Authority, calls for early completion of Zero Point Interchange

Islamabad: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Engineer Farkhand Iqbal has directed the concerned formations of the Authority for early execution of the quality landscaping for the beautification of the multipurpose Zero Point Interchange Project (ZPI) and construction of the pedestrian bridges to facilitate the general public using across the project.

He gave these directions during his visit to the ZPI Project here today. Member Environment, Member Engineering and senior officers of the Authority were also present on the occasion.

He was apprised that CDA is adding special features in the Zero Point Interchange Project by developing the isolated areas in the Interchange into beautiful and environmental friendly landscape and public areas. The detail design of the landscaping plan has been finalized and Environment wing of the Authority has already initiated the work on soft landscaping.

The project is also being incorporated with the latest technique of rainwater harvesting to benefit from the natural source of water/rain flowing through the project area. This would enable the Authority to enrich the groundwater table and enhance the aquifer in the area.

Chairman CDA said that the heaps of the dumped among the loops of the ZPI be removed or arranged in a proper manner to facilitate the process of soft landscaping and beautification. He said that the remaining work on the loops adjacent Pakistan Monument be completed earliest.

Chairman CDA was apprised that construction of grade separation facility at Zero Point Interchange, consists of total nineteen major structures comprising of bridges, overhead structures and underpasses with road widening on three major highways namely Islamabad Highway, Kashmir Highway and on Shahrah-e-Suharwardy with loops and slip roads in clover leaf configuration. The project had six lanes in each direction on Islamabad / Faisal Avenue and five lanes in each direction on Kashmir Highway.

ZPI has been constructed under a comprehensive traffic management scheme to exert least disturbance to the traffic plying through the construction areas without affecting the construction activities and progress. This has been a nightmarish exercise in view of enormous quantum of traffic (130,000 vehicles per day) crossing Zero Point Interchange.
