Lahore: Punjab University Campus Corporation Sanitation Wing, under the head of Sanitary Supervisor Mushtaq Masih, organized a ceremony in connection with Christmas Day in the Al-Razi Hall of Centre for Undergraduate Studies. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over the ceremony while Provincial Minister for Minorities Kamran Michael was the chief guest. VC Agriculture University Faisalabad Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Father Mani, Senior Pastor Shaukat Fazal, Prof Dr Shaukat Ali, Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Resident Officer-I Javed Sami and a large number of Christian employees also attended the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, Kamran Michael said religious harmony was the dire need of time. Pakistan needed such people to promote peace, love and brotherhood who believe in religious harmony. He said our leader Mian Nawaz Sharif says the standard to analyze minority and majority must be on the number of country’s well-wishers rather than colour and sect. he said those who wanted progress were in majority while those who wanted terrorism and war were in minority. He thanked VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran for taking care of minorities and attending their ceremonies.
VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said it was present administration’s policy to care everyone and give equal rights. He announced Rs 500 each for Christian employees as Eidi on Christmas. He also announced holiday of Monday for Christian staff. The Vice-Chancellor said an Endowment Fund with Rs 2 crore had been established for the welfare of employees. He hoped the Christmas would bring happiness for us.
Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said he felt immense pleasure to participate the ceremony. We are people of one country and had same rights. It is religious and official responsibility of all the government officers to respect feelings of minorities.
Javed Sami said the VC had regularized 564 employees of Grade 1-16 in last four year and most of them were Christian employees. He said the VC had supported Christian staff in every possible way. He said first time in history of the varsity recovery of over Rs 5 crore has been made and got rid of illegal occupants. He presented progress report of four years. Mushtaq Masih thanked the VC and said Dr Mujahid Kamran has provided every possible facility to them he said the present administration had solved their problems giving due preferences over which they are grateful to the VC. In the end, Father Mani led prayer and later a cake was also cut.
